From Labyrinth Park to Horta

Less than a century ago the valley of Horta was an oasis amidst of vineyards and fruit trees. It was here where the wealthy elite of Barcelona lived during the weekends or in the summer in their mansions and little palaces.

Although Barcelona has swallowed this former oasis there are still some special places left. You only need to know how to find them, which is exactly what our guide will do when he leads you to these hidden spots. His stories will make that this lost paradise revives again.

Tour details

Park Labyrinth

We start in the oldest and most charming park of Barcelona, Labyrinth Park. We will lead you through the highlights of this park.

Next we visit the lovely gardens of a 19th century palace and we will pass some of the last mineral water wells that are left in Barcelona, with drinkable water coming straight from the mountains.

Waterfall

After having quenched our thirst we head to one of the 3 areas that were constructed during the Olympic games of 1992 and we will have a short stop at the Olympic lawn-tennis courts. From here we will walk through a small neighbourhood that is the last agricultural village left right in the middle of what is now the city of Barcelona.

Having almost arrived at the end of our tour we will pass the only existing laundry-street where the women of Horta washed by hand all the clothes and linnen of the wealthy people from the centre of Barcelona 100 years ago.

In the old village of Horta we will pass 2 medieval mansions and we will conclude our trip with a glass of authentic Catalan wine in a wine-bar where without doubt we will be the only visitors from abroad.

Duration

The tour starts at 10:00 am. The duration is approx. 3 hours from the starting point at subway station Mundet.

Tour difficulty

The trail is very easy and except for the first 10 minutes we will only go downhill. Some easy walking shoes will be sufficient for this tour.

The inner self

During our trip you will have the possibility to have some short breaks in order to have a snack or drink. Nevertheless we recommend to take a small bottle of water with you, especially in the summer months.
